The Mandela Chamber Choir was established in 2019 as an integral part of the Nelson Mandela
University Music Department. The members are musicians who strive for the very best in vocal
ensemble performance. Mandela Chamber Choir aims to inspire the region with their performances
by being both locally relevant and internationally respected. Being a multi-faceted and culturally
diverse entity forms part of the Vaulues of the Nelson Mandela University’s identity.
In 2019 the Choir appeared in various performances including:
- Performing at Voices Unite Lunch Hour Concert on Campus.
- Sharing the stage with the UWC Creative Arts Choir and the Rhodes Chamber Choir both at NMU Auditorium and at the Cathedral in Makhanda (Formerly known as Grahamstown)
- Nelson Mandela University 2019 Summer Graduation Ceremonies.
- Formed part of the Sung Mass at St. Saviors Anglican Church, Port Elizabeth.
Students in the Chamber Choir participate in the highest quality choral experience, advancing their
vocal technique, knowledge of choral repertoire and musicianship. The Chamber Choir is also looking
at a possible South African Tour and partaking in Choral Competitions as well.
